“Greater Albania, or Greatest Albania?” I am often asked. And this past week, Albanians have once again shown that the answer is always Greatest Albania. As any proper self-respecting nation should do, ethnic Albanians in Kosovo celebrated a seminal moment in their quest for independence by all growing moustaches. As euronews explains:
In 1912, moustaches were in fashion when leaders declared Albania free from the crumbling Ottoman Empire. Many people attending a celebration in Kosovo’s capital Pristina wore or grew their own ‘taches’ to mark the country’s 100th anniversary.
I wish we all celebrated the birth of America by walking around in powdered wigs. That would be so, so much better.
