Willard “Mittens” Romney just released his 2011 tax returns- don’t worry though, he did as promised and paid 14%. Unfortunately for him, it’s been discovered that he only should’ve paid 9%. And why did he overpay? According to his own campaign:
He has been clear that no American need pay more than he or she owes under the law. At the same time, he was in the unique position of having made a commitment to the public that his tax rate would be above 13%. In order to be consistent with that statement, the Romneys limited their deduction of charitable contributions.
Doubly unfortunately for Governor Romney, it looks like he’s been running out of his own feet to shoot. Back in July, he foretold his own disqualification from the Presidency:
“I don’t pay more than are legally due and frankly if I had paid more than are legally due I don’t think I’d be qualified to become president,”
